Jama Membership Subscriptions

  • Is Jama free?
We provide a free service covering Financial Wellness Assessments, Basic Financial Plan and eLearning modules. For the financial investments, we never charge any indirect fees or commissions. Further the regulator SEBI mandates that any advisory cannot offer free trials. Hence our basic personalised advisory plan (Gold Plan) has a standard fee. We also have a premium plan for clients interested in having a human advisor help them with their investments.
  • Why are your basic membership costs low? How will you give me continued service if you don't make any commission money?
The industry is moving from a HIDDEN cost model to one that is OPEN cost. We at Jama are part of this major shift. We are able to offer a low cost on the Gold Plan because we use technology extensively to automate most tasks: everything from selecting mutual funds to transaction processing and portfolio monitoring. With less paper to handle, we need less staff. We can serve more customers at a low unit cost. You as a customer get the full benefit.

This makes us confident that we are here to stay and serve you for a lifetime.

. For the savvy customers who dont mind paying a bit more for a higher service, we have the Jama Wealth Plans which build a custom stock portfolio. The pricing for this can be seen here.
  • Why do I need a subscription?
As per SEBI regulations, investment advisors are not allowed to offer free plans. If someone is offering you then it is clear that is not legal. Do see this article. You can start with Jama at a very low fee for the Basic plan. Instead of operating multiple mutual fund logins, you can manage all funds in one place. This also includes importing outside funds, tracking them, and even switching to direct.

However, purchasing a subscription in Jama gives you access to several features. Read more about those features in the other FAQs.
  • Why do you ask for a subscription?
We provide a clean and honest investment advisory service. We do not receive any commission from Mutual Funds or Portfolio Management Services or other Third Parties. Our only source of revenue is our customers. This is what makes us unbiased. As a business we also need to pay our bills and meet various expenses like application development, hosting, etc. Hence we charge a small fee for providing a quality service that is unbiased and works only for you.
  • Which plan is right for me?
We recommend new users start with the Gold plan and make a few investments, create a financial plan and set up atleast one SIP. If you are seeking a personalized financial plan, have more than 10-15 lakhs if investments, or seeking superior returns and the comfort of speaking to an expert advisor then the Wealth Advisory plan is for you.
  • My advisor does it free. Isn't Jama expensive?
If something appears free, then you may be the product. In other words, nothing comes free other than mother's love. In the case of mutual funds or other Demat accounts, you are paying brokerage and significant commission that is deducted from your funds held by them. In the long run (say 20 years) these commissions compound and could go up to 40%-50% of the entire portfolio.

And you are paying this for advice that may not be in your best interests - because you may be sold products that may leak higher payouts.
  • Is Platinum the right plan for me?
The Platinum plan is recommended for advanced users with larger portfolios (of say Rs 10 lakhs or more). Jama as a SEBI Registered Advisors will spend time with you to understand your needs, goals and arrive at a customised financial plan for you. This covers your entire investment portfolio (not just mutual funds). We also do periodic asset rebalancing, fund performance reviews, and portfolio consolidation. Retirement planning also gets a lot of focus as it is the largest financial goal for most people. We also do insurance planning and review covering both health and life insurance.

Platinum plan reduces leakage in terms of commissions, fees, loads, etc. With the right selection of stocks and funds you can generate extra returns.
  • How do I redeem any referral credits that i gain?
You can redeem the credits when you subscribe to Jama or upgrade your subscription. The referral credit amount will be reduced from the subscription amount.
  • Is Jama value for money (Paisa-Vasool) ?
Definitely - our subscription plan is priced at a point where you achieve benefits that are higher than the cost you pay.

In the case of the lower-end mutual fund plans, the subscription fee is often far lesser than the commission cost you save.

In the case of our wealth advisory stock portfolio plans, the returns that our clients achieve more than make up the cost of our advisory offering. Our fees are reasonable, transparent, and adhere to SEBI guidelines.
  • What comes with Basic Plan?

  • Why are your costs so low? How will you give me continued service if you dont make any commission money?
The industry is moving form a HIDDEN & HIGH cost model to one that is OPEN & LOW cost. Our gold plan starts a very low monthly fee that is less than the cost of a coffee. We are able to offer a low cost as keep our own costs low and use technology extensively to automate most tasks: everything from selecting investments to transaction processing and portfolio monitoring. With less paper to handle, we need less staff. Plus we dont need fancy offices. This keeps our costs lean and low and we pass on the benefits to our customers
  • My current banker or agent/advisor does it free. How do you compare?
By now you know that on regular plan funds and any other 'free' products with hidden costs, you are paying the broker upto 1% from your invested money in trail commissions. This is your money being paid by the Mutual Fund to the broker/agent. In the long run (say 20 years) these commissions compound and could go upto 40%-50% of the entire portfolio. Some agents push funds that earn them higher commissions which means the 'advice' may not be in your best interest. With Jama everything is not only unbiased but also paperless and convenient.
  • Am I getting value for money with the subscription?
Definitely - our subscription plan is priced at a point where you get benefits that are higher than the cost you pay. Commissions in regular funds cost investors up to 1% commission per year. The average ticket size easily recovers the cost of subscription and gets a host of goal planning services and financial advice. The upside of commission savings is entirely with you; we wont charge a rupee more but you can keep saving more. The unbiased advisory is in itself worth much more in potential benefits.
